Washington is braced for more unrest. A wide perimeter of streets around the White House are locked down in Washington, D.C., as up to 20,000 National Guard troops are in the process of deployment for President-Elect Joseph R Biden Jr.’s Jan. 20 inauguration.
Fences were installed around several federal buildings in an effort to curtail further violence, including a 7-foot unscalable fence around the Capitol building. Razor wire will be installed on top of the fencing around the Capitol building, as well.
The armed troops are responsible for security around the Capitol building.

About 16 groups, mostly Trump supporters and some claiming to be armed, have registered to protest in Washington. Police departments are on alert for more violence during the inauguration.

Ron Wyden, top Democrat on the powerful Senate Finance Committee, is focusing on a wish-list item for Democrats but poison pill for the GOP: eliminating a ban on the federal government using its negotiating power to directly force lower drug prices under Medicare. “I think we’ve got to take bold action on prescription drug prices,” Wyden (Ore.) told reporters yesterday. “We’re going to be looking at all the tools to get this done.”
