Livingston County seniors reflect on senior year, post-pandemic future

Last summer, Karly Cacicedo was not excited to start her senior year of high school.  When it first began, I thought my senior year would be a total trainwreck, the Brighton High School student said. I wouldn t have the senior year everyone else had. The biggest disappointment was her pompon season getting delayed and performances getting canceled. When she found out her team couldn t travel to Florida for the national championship, she almost quit the team. But now that her senior year is almost over, Cacicedo is happy with how the year turned out. She gets to have a prom and a graduation ceremony - with modifications - and her pompon team placed second in the virtual national championship this spring.

Paul DeBuff resigns as Howell city manager

Paul DeBuff, who spent less than a year as Howell s city manager, has resigned.  According to a press release from the city, DeBuff resigned after some city staff lost confidence based on the very quick pace of changes he wished to implement. Howell Mayor Nick Proctor said he and DeBuff had extensive discussions this week and came to the mutual decision that DeBuff should resign. DeBuff had some good thoughts and good ideas and I embraced the concepts, Proctor said. But he was going much too fast. He failed to get collaboration and buy-in from staff and council on some things.

Livingston County expands COVID-19 vaccine eligibility

LCHD officials say newly eligible individuals will likely have to wait several weeks or more (depending on supplies) before an appointment is available. Although eligibility has expanded, Livingston County will continue to prioritize residents based on highest risk, including older residents, those with underlying medical conditions, and front-line/essential workers, LCHD officials said in a release.  People can request a vaccine appointment through the health department by filing out an online form, at survey.alchemer.com/s3/6130554/COVID-19-Vaccination-Interest-Form The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports about 31% of Livingston County residents have received doses of vaccine, more than 49,000 residents.
