Pinckney man charged in connection with hardware store embezzlement scheme

Pinckney man charged in connection with hardware store embezzlement scheme Shane Cowan was arraigned on a count of receiving and concealing stolen property Wednesday morning after police said he and his fiancee stole property from a Pinckney hardware store.  Mandy Herrst, Cowan s fiancee, was a manager at Byrum Ace Hardware, providing her access to the store s point of sales system.  Herrst used her position as store manager to gain access to the store s point of sale system and computer system to defraud the company of money and merchandise, Pinckney police officer Jeff Garrison said in a hearing that led to charges. 

Woman charged with embezzling more than $100,000 from Michigan nonprofit

Jennifer Trackwell joined Michigan Transition Services Association as its treasurer in 2013, according to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. LARA records show the nonprofit that assists students and young adults with disabilities as they transition through school, removed Trackwell from the organization in August 2017. Last month Trackwell, of Kentucky, was arraigned on one count of embezzlement of more than $100,000 and using a computer to commit a crime.  Court records did not indicate the exact dollar amount in question.  She has no criminal record whatsoever, Ed Literski, Trackwell s attorney, said at her arraignment. The allegations arise out of things that occurred three or four years ago.

Couple charged with embezzling thousands from Byrum Ace Hardware store

A manager at Byrum Ace Hardware in Pinckney is facing embezzlement charges after police say she and her fiancé conspired to steal money and merchandise from the store.  Mandy Herrst, 36, was charged on May 7 with using a computer to commit a crime, embezzlement by an agent or trustee and receiving and concealing stolen property. She was arraigned on those charges Friday.  Her fiancé, Shane Cowan, faces one count of receiving and concealing stolen property. He is scheduled to be arraigned on May 26, according to court records.  Marcus Wilcox, Herrst s attorney, declined to comment. No attorney is listed in court records for Cowan. 

Highland contractor charged with stealing thousands from clients

A Highland man is facing criminal charges after police say he stole credit cards and checks from two families whose homes he was working on.  Kenneth Hill, 33, was charged early last month with three counts of uttering and publishing and two counts of larceny from a building in two separate cases. He is also charged with forgery, larceny of $20,000 or more and fraudulent use of a financial transaction device.  In one case, Hill drained a woman s checking account, a Livingston County Sheriff Office deputy said in an April hearing that led to charges. The woman said she realized a total of five checks were taken from her check book, four of which were forged using her husband s signature totaling just under $10,000.

Brighton man headed to trial on charges of rape, unlawful imprisonment A Brighton man is headed to trial on charges of sexual assault after a Livingston County judge determined there was enough evidence to bind the case over. Joseph Santana, 31, was arraigned on Feb. 28 on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count each of unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and resisting, obstructing police. On Wednesday, Andrea Del Vecchio, a nurse, testified the reported victim had multiple injuries and duct tape residue on her body.  The victim told Del Vecchio that Santana said you want this, despite her telling him multiple times to stop during the assault, Del Vecchio testified.
