Pinckney man charged in connection with hardware store embezzlement scheme
Shane Cowan was arraigned on a count of receiving and concealing stolen property Wednesday morning after police said he and his fiancee stole property from a Pinckney hardware store. 
Mandy Herrst, Cowan's fiancee, was a manager at Byrum Ace Hardware, providing her access to the store's point of sales system. 
Herrst used "her position as store manager to gain access to the store's point of sale system and computer system to defraud the company of money and merchandise," Pinckney police officer Jeff Garrison said in a hearing that led to charges.
