Headlines for Wednesday, August 10th

The FCHS Board met last night in special session. The board passed the updated Return to School Plan with one no vote from board member Matt Rush. Superintendent Jill Fulkerson stated that the plan was pretty generic and contained numerous suggestions for a safe return to school. She further stated that the plan is mandatory in order to receive some funding. After an Executive Session, the board employed Linda Johnston and DJ Vaughan as Individual Aides; Mark Wells as a part-time bus driver, to become full time in December; and Nate Neal as a Special Education Teacher. The board also raised the minimum aide pay to $15.00 per hour and $22.50 per hour for bus drivers. Driving for extra curricular trips was also raised to $22.50 per hour. Convicted Cop killer, Ray E Tate is set to appear in Wayne County court this morning in front of Judge Molt at 9:00 AM via Zoom. On December 29th, 2021 Tate shot and killed Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley after a call was placed for a motorist assist on I-64, then fled the scene and headed to Missouri where a crime spree ensued involving hijacking and taking a homeowner hostage. In April, Tate plead guilty to 38 counts of murder, however on May 19th, Tate asked to withdraw his plea in an effort to avoid dying in prison. Tate appeared in court via Zoom on June 28th for a status hearing. He is currently being housed in the Menard Correctional Facility. Fairfield Community High School district 225 will hold a special board meeting on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 5:00 pm in the FCHS Study Hall. In new business the board will address the updated Return to School Plan. The Board will also enter into Executive Session for consideration of employment of two paraprofessionals for Special Education, a part-time bus driver, and Special Education teacher. The board will also consider increases in pay for paraprofessionals and bus drivers. The Fairfield City Council will meet on Tuesday, August 9 at 6 p.m. In routine business the council will discuss repealing ordinance section 51.37, contractor disposal of waste. The council will also seek to approve a TIF agreement with David Savage, Trick or Treat dates, a resolution regarding the release of Executive Session, and a resolution authorizing the destruction of audio recordings of closed session meetings.
