Rivers forecasted to flood across region after latest rainfall

PADUCAH, KY (WSIL) The recent rainfall has dropped multiple inches in some areas of our region. Now, the latest river observations show a spike in flooding across area rivers.

A Wet Forecast Has Lead To Flood Watches Being Issued

Much of the region is under a flood watch starting this evening and running through late Friday. Officials at the National Weather Service say that 2 to 4 inches of rainfall are expected with some areas getting as much as 5 inches of rainfall. National Weather Service Officials at Paducah have already issued a flood warning for the Little Wabash River at Carmi, in effect until further notice starting Saturday.

Flood Warnings Continue

Area rivers are now at or above flood stage following Friday's heavy rainfall. Flood warnings are in effect along the Little Wabash River at Carmi until further notice, and on the Skillet Fork at Wayne City through this evening. River stages as of this morning are as follows: the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 23.91 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At Clay City the river is at 21.44 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet, with a crest of 21.7 feet expected early Monday. At Carmi the stage is 27.04 feet, just over the 27-foot flood stage. A crest of 32 feet is forecasted this coming Thursday. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 15.63 feet this morning, above the 15-foot flood stage. A slow fall is expected with the river falling below flood stage by Monday. The Wabash River at Mt. Heavy rainfall late Thursday night and Friday have pushed area rivers to near or above flood stage. A Flood Warning is in effect for the Little Wabash River at Carmi until further notice. Here's the latest on the area river stages as of early this morning. The Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 21.38 feet, above the 17-foot flood stage. At Clay City the river is at 19.85 feet. Flood stage at Clay City is 18 feet, with a crest of 21.1 feet expected by this Tuesday. At Carmi the Little Wabash River is at 25.81 feet, just below the 27-foot flood stage. A crest of 32.5 feet is expected this coming Thursday morning. A Flood Warning is in effect along the Skillet Fork at Wayne City until late Sunday evening. Its stage this morning is 15.08 feet, just above the 15-foot flood stage. The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a Wind Advisory for the region from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. Forecasters are expecting winds to pick up later tonight and increase Monday. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected with some gusts topping 40 mph and possibly approaching 50 mph. The gusts could bring down some limbs or branches and cause a few scattered power outages in the region. The weather service also says rain chances are in the forecast later tonight and early Monday, with more rain chances Thursday, and cooler weather this coming weekend, with a chance of a rain or snow mix by late Thursday or early Friday morning. Here's the latest on area river stages as of this morning: the Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 15.31 feet, below the 17-foot flood stage. At Clay City the stage is 11.53 feet.
