The Trump administration has has executed
Lisa M. Montgomery, the only woman on federal death row, just days before the United States will swear in its first woman Vice President. Montgomery was the first woman to be executed by the U.S. in several decades.

Although federal appeals courts had put Montgomery’s execution on hold, the United States Supreme Court issued a series of brief, unsigned orders, that reversed the lower rulings and allowed the execution to take place.
A judge has granted a stay of execution to Lisa Montgomery, who was set Tuesday to be the first female inmate executed by the US federal government in 70 years. But Judge James Hanlon of the Southern District of Indiana granted her an eleventh-hour stay of execution Monday.

WASHINGTON In December 2004, Lisa M. Montgomery murdered a pregnant woman in Skidmore, Mo., and abducted the unborn child to claim as her own. The only woman on federal death row, she is scheduled for execution on Tuesday, and her defense team does not contest her guilt.
