SAN DIEGO (KGTV) A 17-year-old boy accused of killing a Carlsbad woman on a popular hiking trail denied the allegations against him during a virtual arraignment Thursday morning.
Through his attorney, the teen denied all allegations. He faces charges in connection with the Nov. 23 death of 68-year-old Lisa Thorborg.
Thorborg was on a morning walk at Hosp Grove Trail when Carlsbad police investigators said she was attacked and stabbed to death.

SAN DIEGO The teen arrested in connection with the murder of Lisa Thorborg is scheduled for a first court appearance Thursday. The 68-year-old grandmother was out walking on a popular trail in Carlsbad in November when she was fatally stabbed.
Dena Beyrouty saw the arrest from a balcony overlooking the beach in Carlsbad. “I m telling you - he just looked like a normal Southern California surfer kid,” she said. The arrest happened around 3:30 Monday afternoon on the sand near Carlsbad Village Drive. “He looked sad - like - it just felt like - maybe the journey s over. I m done.”

The suspect behind the fatal stabbing of 68-year-old Lisa Thorborg has been apprehended but his identity cannot be revealed. It appears the assailant is a 17-year-old teenager who was arrested on a Carlsbad beach on Monday.
Thorborg was hiking alone before the brutal killing took place. Thorborg had moved to Carlsbad from Oregon in May following the death of her husband in 2017. The 68-year-old posted on Nextdoor that she was looking for anyone who would be interested in going hiking with her.
The Killing of Lisa Thorborg
Thorborg was a beloved grandmother who had moved to Carlsbad with her family just 6 months ago.
On the morning of Nov. 23, Carlsbad Police Department detectives believe Thorborg went hiking alone on a trail that runs through Hosp Grove Park – just blocks away from her home.
Investigators said Thorborg had posted some messages on social media in the days leading up to her killing asking if there was anyone around who wanted to go hiking with her.
“Hiking anyone?” she posted on NextDoor, a social media site that connects neighbors. “I would love the company.”
The Carlsbad Police Department is still investigating those posts and whether they had anything to do with Thorborg’s killing.

A 17 year old boy pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder in the stabbing death of a 68-year-old grandmother as she hiked a Carlsbad trail last month.
The Carlsbad teen, whose name has not been released because of his age, remains in custody at Juvenile Hall in San Diego, where he has been since his arrest as a suspect in the slaying of Lisa Thorborg.
Thorborg’s body was found Nov. 23 midmorning on a Monday on Hosp Grove trail, not far southeast of Buena Vista Lagoon. Blood at the scene tipped police that her death was suspicious. An autopsy revealed she had been stabbed.
