Construction will soon begin on the North Woods rain garden project at Lake Avondale. The Avondale Estates City Commission, at its Feb. 23 meeting, approved a resolution allowing the city manager to contract with Centennial Contractor Enterprises to construct phase one of the project.
The Avondale Estates City Commission amended the city’s tree ordinance during its meeting on Jan. 12. The amendments included a new requirement that property owners must apply for a tree removal permit before performing any substantial land disturbance in residential areas, according to the ordinance.
Avondale Estates City Commission adopted an amended 2021 budget along with the 2022 budget at their regular meeting on December 20. The meeting was held via Zoom due to a positive COVID case at the Avondale Estates City Hall.

Avondale Estates held its Annual Tree Lighting on Monday, Nov. 29. There was a new tree this year, cookies and hot chocolate from the Boy Scouts, Christmas carols were sung by the Decatur Avondale Children’s Choir and Santa Claus arrived on a DeKalb County fire truck.
