washington on the big news regarding vaccines. 100 million of these johnson & johnson single dose vaccines that will be out there. i guess, kevin, pronto, huh? yeah, sooner than some expected. although to be fair, not as many doses unfortunately, neil as had been hoped for. this is a boon for all americans that still need to take the vaccine. this is great for everyone especially as we try to get the economy rolling again. the white house today actually told governors on tuesday to expect fewer than 400,000 doses of the johnson & johnson vaccine next week that is far below what they initially had expected to be available however, in making the announcement today with johnson & johnson and merck, the president said he s helping manufacture this vaccine under the deal brokered by the white house. that s a win for all of us. you may recall last week, mr. biden announced the u.s. would have enough covid-19 doses for every adult american by the end of may. that was in itself a t
legislation than anything passed anything passed at least the last two democratic presidents. legislatively in terms of its progressive reach, in terms of its reach to make things better for people who need the most help. it is definitely on par with the affordable care act, with obamacare. but this bill, what the senate passed this weekend, what the house will pass tomorrow, what president biden is about to sign, will hit a wider target than the affordable care act ever aimed at. as huge an accomplishment as that was to reform the absolutely broke and broken u.s. health care system to try to improve it in a fundamental way, this bill is bigger. it is aiming at more. it will strike what is hoped to be a decisive blow against the pandemic in terms of funding a coherent technocratically skilled national response. everything from testing to the vaccine rollout. we are in the middle of the largest vaccine rollout in the history of the country. this is how we re going to fund it

landmark relief bill. the house gearing up for a vote on the $2 trillion plan. it could get to the president s desk as early as tomorrow morning. that s a big deal. as a matter of calendar, it would beat the sunday deadline for renewing programs for the jobless. biden visited a hardware store that will benefit from this kind of support today, and he contrasted this money and the way he is going to deliver it, the new approach here with discredited trump programs where some of the money went the people who just didn t need it. an awful lot of that went to bigger businesses that in fact weren t supposed to qualify. in the last administration fired its inspector general. so a lot of money went to people who shouldn t have gotten help. we ve got several aspects of this story, but we begin immediately with our experts, former governor of vermont and former presidential candidate and also a doctor howard dean, and washington post reporter libby casey. good to see both of you.
