good afternoon, i m yasmin vossoughian. we have a lot to cover for you this afternoon. out today, a big announcement about former president, barack obama, plans for midterm campaigning. and the places that will get a visit from the democrat s most powerful asset. plus, the georgia senate debate. while an abortion scandal hangs over his candidacy, it was a strange attempt at theater that got herschel walker a scolding. mister walker, you are very well aware of the rules tonight. yes. and you have a prop. that is not allowed, sir. we are going to have the highlights of reaction from voters in this key senate race. plus, new developments in the mar-a-lago documents case as the doj asks for an end to the special master. and the president is set to speak in just an hour or so about the top of the 3 pm hour, about the economy and the some tough inflation news this week. all of that, plus you have to hear it to believe it. at least one of our schools in our town has, in on
to purchase tobacco in texas to 21. and in 2021, the texas legislature lowered the able to purchase guns to 18. this individual who killed 19 of our children a day ago was 18 when he went and purchased those weapons. and that s because the legislature lowered the age in the state of texas. and so if we don t stand up for our kids, it happened in uvalde, but these are our children. if we don t protect them, who will? and the legislature passed house bill 1927, talking about the texas legislature, that now permits permitless carry. no training. no license. no permit required. lowered the age by which people can purchase assault weapons to 18, and now 19 of our babies are gone. and families will be hurting for the rest of their lives. i applaud what beto o rourke did. the time to be nuanced is over, okay? and you can t not allow policymakers, legislatures, governors to pass bills that promote the use of guns and then when people are killed say we are praying and we are offer our
just in the last five years. if you think about it, representative moskowitz was saying if only 1% of those averted a mass shooting that won 90 of them. these families didn t have a day, they didn t have an hour to try to honor their loved ones and process what is happening without another mass shooting happening in another part of the country. and if i were to ask you how many mass shootings do you think happened so far this year, the figure is actually close to 70 and it is february 14th, valentine s day. think about that for a second. now, stand with parkland is a group of parents and spouses who lost loved ones who came together. they helped to craft this legislation. that is giving them some energy. but i spoke with linda beagle shulman, the mother of scott beagle, a teacher, who ushered students into his classroom as the violence was raining down, he saved their lives, he was executed in the hallway. how she described it to me, every single day there is some form of a reminder.
mass shooting, they are still coming to terms with the jury s decision to sentence the shooter to life in prison without parole. sparing him from the death penalty. he had already pled guilty to 17 counts of murder and will have his final sentencing on november 1st. on friday, i spoke to linda beagle shulman, the mother of a victim of that shooting. teacher scott and we talked about her son and her dismay at this decision by the jury. take a listen. can we talk about november 1st for a moment? because that is the date in which your son s killer will be sentenced. and we know, according to florida s law, that was changed back in 2017, it requires a unanimous jury recommendation for the death penalty. essentially meaning the judge cannot change now what the jury has put forth. what does that mean to you?
when i see this. i live scott s murder every single day of my life. there is not a day in my life that i don t hear that police officer say, when we were in the command center, 1562 days ago, you know, linda, your son was a hero. but he didn t make it. these people, these people, these families, the whole town, they are going through this. they did not have to go through this, but they are going through this, and they are probably still in shock because the worst is yet to come. they have to bear they are burying their kids. that family is burying their mothers or their fathers. they are burying them. i mean, this is not, oh, today s news. this is every day s news. somebody said to me, one reporter said to me yesterday, would you give would you give a news would you give an
