Its not actually their body because at time a conception there is a new body formed. I dont think she has the right to take that life. It is the babys body. But you have to take care of it, maintain yourself, people imagine when youre prochoice your pro killing babies. Thats not true. I want to give women the chance to have the healthiest babies they can. Thats why on a womans house registered nurse. That baby inside your body its own body. It has a right to live, just as much as anybody else does. Just because its still inside the mother, doesnt mean its not human. Abortion is a womans right. If thats what she feel like she wants to do, that her right. I cant judge her. I dont want to judge that woman. It is up to god to judge, not me. Im not saying that i believe in abortion but im saying its my right just to be clear there is a referendum on the ballot in pennsylvania. In fact the republican governor is elected as governor in pennsylvania, there is a possibility the abortion could be banned in the State Of Pennsylvania, with no exceptions. Let me start with you as we took and what we just heard from pennsylvania. What do you make of what you heard there . You know, i actually just moved from pennsylvania. I spent a lot of time in pennsylvania. Penwe have a team on the ground dealing with the election. This tracks with a lot of what weve been hearing. A lot of thoughtful, respondents a really thoughtful observations about the fight ahead. I think at the end of the day it is a deeply personal decision. In americans, and out of ten americans support the constitutional legal right. They may be personally conflicted. Out of those eight there are a range of folks, right . Some persons would never have an abortion, right . Maybe its not her personal choice but she deeply believes that the government shouldnt be interfering with that decision. Especially in Pennsylvania A very catholics day they consistently voted statewide for prochoice candidates. Its interesting that you say that. When it comes to religious affiliation, emily i will want you to weigh in on this, as well as so many of the women that i spoke to talk to me about the fact that they are faithful people, right . They go to church. Especially the women that were for Abortion Rights. How do you reconcile that with your faith . The majority of catholics are actually prochoice and probable control. There is a ton of data on this. I think at the end of the day americas are historically very good at differentiating between the personal spiritual belief and their political views. They do not want Government Intervening with this and she. That is the final end of this discussion were having today. Should the government have the same . The percentage i have here, 62 of Abortion Patients report a religious affiliation. 30 protestant, 24 catholic, a percentage and fight with another religion. Emily, if you could, weigh in for me on some of what you heard . I was hearing, yes, a lot of religious themes coming in. I think even more so i was hearing both the prolife and prochoice people said their views in that segment really arent understanding each other. I think our society has created a space where prolife and prochoice people arent friends, they dont talk to one another. I heard one prolife person they say i disagree with another prolife person. She was saying prolife people dont understand biology, they to understand theres another body involved. Typically that is not the type of argument prochoice people today are making. Let me stop you right there, for one moment. I would rather be using pro Abortion Rights and antiAbortion Rights. I will explain to you why. Everyone at this table is prolife. We all advocate life at this table. If we can lets try to skip with that terminology what we are having this conversation. So i have no problem whatsoever. Typically use the language that people used to describe themselves. Most people who would be pro Abortion Rights often use prochoice, they dont see themselves as being for abortion. They see themselves as the choice to have an abortion. I think if were gonna have a respectful conversation its really helpful to get snow with the people on the other side think. And i use the words that they used to describe themselves. That was my take away from watching this clip of all the people that you talk to we are not having these conversations out in Society People are not understanding the views of people on the other side hold weve shifted our language to shift to reproductive redone that freedom encompasses the broadest range of americans who actually support a legal right to abortion. It taps into the fundamental freedom of whether or not to have a family i think at the end of the day choice and life or problematic you nailed it they dont encapsulate a broad range of folks who are actually for access to abortion i think at the end of the day we actually are talking to each other there is a broad range of people in the group but folks who are antiabortion are increasingly becoming smaller and smaller minority in this country. It is true that we are not hearing as much from them right now. Make your argument, if you would, emily. We are hearing from you that it is important to have this conversation right . We are all here at this forum this is what this segment is about. This is what this conversation is about. If you would, for me, tell me why you think its important to not provide Abortion Rights and women in this country. I essentially see abortion as a conflict of rights issue. A conflict of the womans right to bodily autonomy and the right to life that i believe a fetus has. If you break down those things. Both biologically speaking, it is a living member of the species homo sapiens. I will try to use as neutral language is possible. We know it is biological human. I also have a belief that all humans preserve equal rights. I think that all humans are persons that should be protected under law. I do think a person has the right to life. That obviously comes in conflict with the womans right to do what she wants with her body. Womens rights, anyones right to do what they want with their body or extremely important. All right to do whatever we want with a body has limits. The choices we are making about our body are harming another person, that is what is happening in abortion, An Act Of Violence against another human person, that is when i think youre right to do what you want with your body does have a limit. Ultimately, unless a womans life is at risk, i do you think that you dont have the right to do an active violence against another person. Can you define for me the definition of a fetus . Eight weeks what is that . Scientifically . We use the term fetus when a person comes in to be evaluated. In that period of embryo logical development, we use words like harvey. Its not harvey in the way that we think of our hubby. For chambers, valves, its segura. It really is a collection of electrical activity that has the potential to become a heartbeat the way that we think about. It in a medical perspective we dont think of it as a full form, person, the way that people in this argument often use it. Go ahead. I think that you just pointed out a great life where they often talk past each other. When people say the unborn isnt human, often prolife people are talking about the biological sense. Is it a member of the species. Often prochoice people or speaking in this personhood sense. Is it like you and i . The science that you are not just pointed out about heartbeats, isnt the kind of thing that you and i should be treated like is it biological human. But the science is the facts at the end of the day. Here is that our show is what we believe. The science. That is what makes up a fetus is the science, right . I also know that you take issue with the argument behind my body my choice. I want you to explain your issue with that. Sure. I think you do have a right to do with your body, my body my choice means say my body is my sovereign zone. I have the right to do what i want with my body. That is the best possible light of that argument. I do agree that you have the right to do what you want with your body until that wright is starting to infringe on another persons right to live, right to exist. Ill give you an example. There is a famous part of medical history where a little mind, a woman got this for morning sickness. We are now, today, not allowed to get medicine to people who are pregnant because we know causes really severe birth defects. It can cause babies to be born without arms and legs. We dont have the right to take the little mind, as a pregnant person today, because we know it can cause this kind of violence to another person. You do have rights to your body, but those rights ultimately dont get the trump someone elses right to live or to cause violent harm to them. As we saw in the case of the little mind, rightfully so has lost against you cannot there are restrictions what you can cannot do to your body there. My body, my choice, you say if for instance you feel like its your body, your choice, you should be able to not have any restrictions on abortion whatsoever because it is, after all, a womans body. Soever beca lot of prochoice pi should say Abortion Rights activists who use the terminology my body my choice, often dont actually agree with the conclusion of that bill. If it is true that i can do anything i want with my own body than we would have to say there could be no restrictions on abortions whatsoever. We know americans overwhelmingly are not okay with. Pro Abortion Rights folks according to the studies ive seen think there should be restrictions on one abortion is allowed in a pregnancy. If its true, the principle is true that you can do whatever you want with anything its out of your body, we would have to say that abortion is available for all nine months of pregnancy. I was just gonna say that we dont give people enough credit for having common sense. I dont think that anyone comes in for Prenatal Care at 24 weeks expects to just all of a sudden terminate their pregnancy. That is not something that really happens. I think we below up these Microcosm Point 025 events that might happen and make them seem like they are larger than they are. That is just not what happens in pregnancy. If a woman comes in, we do an ultrasound. We find something that is catastrophic to the pregnancy, that is deeply troubling to the person. Otherwise, in their mind, envisioned a full term pregnancy. N theiwhen we talk about the experiment that you just explained, it doesnt happen. It evokes emotion, i think that is what troubles last and having these conversations with each other. That type of statement becomes emotional but its not factual. Im sorry, two points and just want to reply to. I actually dont think were talking past each other. I think unfortunately we have two concepts of what science means and what definitions are. I think its great we have a doctor here. I think at the end of the day theres a lot of debate in the movement between personhood, where life begins. At the end of the day if you look at the fundamental issue of freedom, it does offset a lot of these biological debates. You have people up in a big office telling us what we can and cant do. If it was them, what would they do . They got the assurance, they got the money, they can do it all. What about the poor man doesnt have the money . They dont have the insurance and cant afford the insurance. What is gonna happen to them . For people who are just not being responsible with sexual relations, we should be made to pay for that as taxpayers. There is enough programs that they could carry those children. One of the girls had been assaulted. Talk to me about how she had two children at home and felt like she was making the responsible decision. She was a boarding this fetus she didnt have the money she couldnt afford to. She was already underwater. What would she do now if she had to take care of another child if she decided to take this fetus to term . I want to give you some stats before you respond to that. Pennsylvania alone, there is over 7000 Staff Vacancies contributing to over 32,000 for kids on the waitlist in the state alone to try to get into a daycare facility. The average price of daycare yearly 10,000. Nearly a third of the average income. What do you make of that . A woman says, i cannot do this. I do not have the money, i dont have family around. I dont have the resources. Nothing is there for me. I think that we have to provide that for her. We as a society have been doing a horrible job over the last hundred years, really, of supporting women and families. They have the resources that they feel that they need in order to do this. I am by no means some stereotypical republican or Something Like that. On all of my platforms i have been advocating for very specific changes that can be happening both in a federal government and state and local agencies. I have to push back on you because the Biden Administration actually had a Infrastructure Bill. In it provided for subsidized child care. Republican legislators lawmakers voted against it. They were not in support of it. That would be something i would not agree with that decision. I think we do those are the same folks that are also advocating for overturning roe. I think that a lot of republicans are not actually walking the walk in many ways. They are saying that they want to have a world where there is not abortion but they are not advocating for things where they would provide for women didnt feel like they needed to have an abortion. To the Doctors Point earlier most women who are having abortion decisions, making these decisions, and doing it because they want to have an abortion. They feel like they are trapped under this decision. I feel like they dont have the resources. This is the decision to take very seriously in their lives. I am not seeing very many politicians that are affected advocating both for a grave Human Rights Violation making that legal. I think its important. All humans, they get legal protection. I think it is important we are providing for women and families. Sadly, out of the a lot of politicians doing the things that i feel they can support. Democrats. The states that are forcing people to continue pregnancies are not providing any of the support that women pregnant people need. To your question about pennsylvania Pennsylvania As a state that allows legislators to put about an issue gives on the ballot. And pennsylvania the legislature has to pass the same bill twice. They have passed it once what it would do is pass the second time would put a constitutional amendment on the Pennsylvania About to say the Pennsylvania Constitution does not protect the right to abortion and does not allow funding for abortion care. We, in the medical community, there is some debate there. We consider viability to be a 24 weeks. It will also depend on the weight of the fetus which impacts viability.
