Holdover striped bass action is holding steady and freshwater fishing continues to produce on open water without skim ice.

Fishin Factory III in Middletown, told me that school striped bass can still be found around the mouth of the river, but most of the local linesider anglers are heading to the Housatonic or the Thames for some solid holdover bass action. Reports of school bass are plentiful once again after a small delay due to the rainstorm last week. Most boats have stayed tied to the docks this week, but those that have gotten out are still finding some nice sea bass and cod at Coxes and around the Block. Freshwater anglers continue to report good trout fishing in the Salmon River Farmington TMAs. Three COVID patients are suddenly in need of ventilators at the same time. They are all breathing like they’ve just run a 100-yard dash and still can’t get enough oxygen.
They’re not in the ICU itself that’s full, its dozen-plus patients already on ventilators.
Instead, Guadarrama has been called to the step-down unit, a nearby hallway of 10 or so rooms for others with less severe COVID. Except Guadarrama has learned that the disease can turn quickly, and now, for three of them, it has.

New book documents Rhode Island’s Civilian Conservation Corps history

A new book on the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Rhode Island features the stories of local residents, including those who served in CCC camps in North Smithfield, Foster and Glocester.
Marty Podskoch is a Connecticut resident who spent the past six years documenting the CCC camps of Connecticut and Rhode Island. In April, he visited the area for a research trip on the camps of northern Rhode Island, one of several trips he’s made to the state since 2014.
