Rihanna posted on Twitter about increasingly tense protests by Indian farmers against the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party. These protests are currently in their third month, and involve contentious changes to agricultural laws that many of the country s farmers (who mostly possess their own, very limited land holdings) fear will leave them vulnerable to more volatile free market forces. Modi is offering to suspend the laws, but the protesting farmers are arguing for a complete repeal.
Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg had also extended her support to the farmers, saying that she stands in solidarity with the farmers. We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India, Thunberg wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
Several other celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, have also spoken in support of the farmers.

Rihanna’s tweet brought global attention to the farmers protest, which has been going on for months now against the new farm laws.
The singer is now facing vicious trolling on Twitter, even from several verified handles on Twitter with people calling her “uninformed”.On late Tuesday night, Google searches for “Rihanna” spiked up across India, especially in Punjab. Why? Global popstar Rihanna took the country by surprise as she tweeted about the ongoing farmers protest.

Hours after international celebrities including pop sensation Rihanna, Swedish teen eco warrior Greta Thunberg and former adult star Mia Khalifa, voiced their virtual support for protesting farmers, there was pushback from Political India and Bollywood as well.
Soon after, Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg also came out in support of the protesters as she shared the same article and wrote, We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India.
