Yes, it s the name of a Thai indie-folk rock band that writes songs in English, and though the name is odd, the story behind it makes sense. Much like its name, its members Pie Wuttara, the vocalist and main songwriter; Rack Lertpanya, the guitarist; and Taw Jangbumrung, the drummer also come from different backgrounds and different musical tastes but all come together to form a musical entity that produces unique ear candy to the delight of audiences. Guru talks to My Life As Ali Thomas about their origin story, their upcoming album Peppermint Town and what it was like being the first Thai act to perform at SXSW (South By Southwest).

Shye, She s Only Sixteen and more announced for Music Lane Festival Okinawa 2021

Credit: Christopher Sim, Press Japan’s Music Lane Festival Okinawa has announced the addition of multiple East and Southeast Asian acts to its line-up, including Shye, She’s Only Sixteen, Syd Hartha, lightcraft and more. The 33 up-and-coming acts from across the region will perform virtually through pre-recorded sets, while acts from Japan will perform live – making the January event a hybrid online-offline festival. The new additions hail from the countries Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand Mongolia and South Korea. Representing Singapore will be Shye, YAØ, Shirly Temple, Woes, Shak’thiya and HubbaBubbas, while Malaysia’s performers include Skits, Golden Mammoth, Jemson, Court 10, FAZZ, Capt Trips n The Kid, and The Filters.
