Devon and Cornwall police commissioner result: Alison Hernandez elected

Alison Hernandez has been elected as police and crime commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for a second term of office. Commissioner Alison Hernandez won with a majority of 65.2% over second place Gareth Derrick (Labour) after a second round of voting. Following an election already postponed by the pandemic, the result was then delayed by a count that took more than 13 hours, following a ‘discrepancy in the results’ from Cornwall holding up the process. Ballots begun to be counted at 9.30am on Monday, but it was not until almost 11pm that a result was called. Commissioner Hernandez was eventually sworn into her role in Exeter late on Monday by Karime Hassan, CEO of Exeter City Council.
