Pregnant fiancee pays tribute to Scots war hero who died before seeing first baby scan
Daily Record 21/01/2021 Stephen Stewart
The pregnant partner of a decorated Scots war hero has told how he died before he could see a scan of their baby.
David Timmins, 39, lost an eye and suffered internal injuries and brain damage while defusing a roadside bomb in Helmand, Afghanistan in 2009.
His fiancee, Liane Brophy, has spoken for the first time since his death at his parents’ house in Neilston, Renfrewshire, on January 6, the night before she had her first scan.
Mum-of-one Liane, 40, from Glasgow, said: “David was just coming up to his 40th birthday and was very much looking forward to becoming a dad again.
AFTER surviving horrific wounds in an explosion in Afghanistan in 2009, David Timmins had so much to live for. The East Renfrewshire soldier impressed family and friends with his courage as he battled back from injuries that included a fractured skull and a collapsed lung, as well as the loss of his right eye. And life took an exciting new twist for David when he discovered his fiancée, Liane Brophy, was expecting their first baby in July. His tragic death on January 6 means he will never get to meet that baby but loved ones will make sure the new arrival knows all about his heroic deeds.
