Im jamie colby, in laguna beach, california, about an hour south of l. A. I think my favorite strange inheritance stories are about regular folks who discover something in moms attic or grandpas basement that not only changes their lives but reveals something i never knew about american history. My name is marty dolan. For decades, a few boxes collected dust in my mothers attic. When i opened them, i discovered my familys link to some of the most sensational crime stories of the 20th century. I meet marty, a 70yearold retired anesthesiologist. Hi, marty. Im jamie colby. Welcome to my home. He tells me this true detective story begins in 1960, when martys greatuncle, mike malone, a longtime irs employee, passes away. Martys grandmother, molly, heads to st. Paul, minnesota, to collect her brothers personal effects. Its there she makes a bizarre find under the pillow a gun. No serial numbers on the gun. They were etched out. Why would he, as a government employee, have a gun with no seria

Hotel because from 1928 to 1931, the famous gangster al capone lived at the Lexington Hotel. He ran his whole criminal empire out of the fourth and fifth floors of that building. And he reportedly maintained this secret shooting range for his gangster henchmen as well as a gym for them to stay fit. There were also reportedly secret tunnels underneath the hotel that they used to hide and move liquor and other contraband and even to move people who were hiding out or running from the fuzz. Al capone was at that hotel from 1928 to 1931, and he had to move out in 1931 because he had to move to alcatraz because they got him for tax evasion. After al capone left the Lexington Hotel so he could go to jail, the lexington hung on for a while but eventually went into decline. It was called the new michigan hotel, but after its days of being the new michigan hotel, it just became a giant 400room brothel. By the 1980s, what had been the Lexington Hotel and then the new michigan hotel, it was closi
States senator, Ted Strickland. Love this man. Your current senator whos fighting for you every single day, sheriff brown. A couple of your outstanding members of congress, joyce beatty and tim ryan. I know the Ohio Democratic party has been preparing for this election. You know, a strong party depends on great Public Servants being elected at the local level and the School Boards and the City Councils and the mayors office. And your Field Operation has helped us win important races from akron to toledo. Chilikoff to warren. And through the spring, even as we democrats had a hardfought primary, you kept signing up thousands of value tiers. Registering thousands of voters. Were going to keep our eye on the president who we imagine after this sort of ceremonial opening in which hes talking about the race there with Ted Strickland running against incumbent rob portman in the Ohio Democratic party will probably turn his sights to the president ial election which is what donald trump is tal
