Businesses urged to apply for relief funds | News, Sports, Jobs

bcox@lewistownsentinel.com LEWISTOWN More than $419,000 in relief money for hospitality businesses whose bottom lines in 2020 were negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic is available now in Mifflin County and the Mifflin County Commissioners urged businesses to apply as soon as possible. The program administered by SEDA-Council of Governments, called the COVID-19 Hospitality Industry Recovery Program, or CHIRP, awards grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to businesses in the hospitality industry such as hotels and restaurants that suffered losses in 2020 due to the pandemic. Mifflin County Planning Director Mark Colussy spoke during Thursday morning’s regular meeting of the commissioners and reported that while some businesses have applied and been approved, there’s still lots more help available.

First on Corman’s mind was the continued fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “To me, obviously, dealing with the pandemic is still enormous and getting the vaccines out has been one of our top priorities,” he said. “I think they’ve been pretty well received. It’s been trying to clear up information for people in the 34th Senatorial District.”

MABL votes to repeal resolution enacted Monday | News, Sports, Jobs

bcox@lewistownsentinel.com LEWISTOWN During a brief special meeting Friday, the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown Board of Directors voted to repeal a resolution enacted at Monday’s special meeting that sought to have Lewistown Borough take over the authority’s debt for the purpose of refinancing. The board’s discussion centered around the need to have funding available for MABL’s capital improvement projects. Under the resolution, it seemed as though MABL would have been forced to seek approval from Lewistown Borough for any expenditures. Engineer Pat Ward said there was some “miscommunication with what was going on” at Monday’s meeting.

During their regular meeting, Commissioner Kevin Kodish read the proclamation, in which the commissioners lauded the library for the service it provides and calling upon residents to visit the library and use its resources.
