Air pollution contributed to the death of a nine-year-old girl, a coroner has said in a world first ruling, as her family say they may sue officials for failing to protect her.
Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, who died in 2013 after suffering years of ill health, is the first person in the UK to have air pollution listed as a cause of death.
In a landmark ruling, inner London coroner Philip Barlow said that air pollution was a significant contributory factor to both the induction and exacerbations of her asthma .
Ella s family lived in Lewisham, near London s south circular, a busy main road that runs through residential areas of the borough.
