Air pollution contributed to the death of a nine-year-old girl, a coroner has said in a world first ruling, as her family say they may sue officials for failing to protect her.
Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, who died in 2013 after suffering years of ill health, is the first person in the UK to have air pollution listed as a cause of death.
In a landmark ruling, inner London coroner Philip Barlow said that air pollution was "a significant contributory factor to both the induction and exacerbations of her asthma".
Ella's family lived in Lewisham, near London's south circular, a busy main road that runs through residential areas of the borough.
