top of the hour, we will take you back to the fema directors that are going on right now. this news conference and we will listen to the very latest from winter park, florida, and get an update on recovery and rescue operations there. fema back to flood insurance. what kind of turnaround or how long until you expect people to be able to receive to face what s needed in their homes? how long do the inspections and claims take? yeah, one of the very first things that everybody should do is contact their insurance company to see what is going to be eligible. this includes flood insurance, which is by fema and also some of the other insurances they have for wind damage, et cetera. they are going to have to file that claim. one of the first thing that s going to have to happen is an inspection of that home, so they can determine the extent of damages. that will depend on the availability to access the homes. we know that there are still many homes that might be underwa
and i am trying to be brave and know that my family and i are safe and i will worry about all of that other stuff later. i am 67, lived here for five years. and now it is gone. it is underwater. underwater. so much of that area still underwater there, want to go to matlacha in florida. where liz mclaughlin standing by for us. let s take us there if you will once again. joining at the top of the last hour, as you are still in that area that is just completely devastating to see a road completely broken up really. crumbled upon itself. water still surrounding the area. what more are you seeing? absolutely yasmin this does not look like the result of a hurricane. this looks like an earthquake or something. it is just crumpled concrete, the only artery to the height of pine island behind me. matlacha, this idea like kind of fishing village now just completely crumbled. and in fact there are some remains of homes here. one zahra behind it are completely gone. just washed out
making the evacuations, according to the sheriff s department. just to give you an idea of how much water is here, it was still putting pressure on infrastructure. more than two days after this storm force struck. i can tell you, it s still very difficult to navigate these areas. because of the cell phone issues, i can imagine it s even harder for people to try and find their way back to parts of these communities. the images just say it all, alex. so, i m being told, jessie, that specifically these are, this is video that happened just this morning and we are showing the levee issues right there. it s my understanding that where the levee to break, although i ve got to say, it looks like it has been inundated at this point, given the amount of water in the region. what, about 15 feet of floodwater could be unleashed? it does not look like a heavily residential community. i mean, i think you said about 70 homes would be affected. but wow, i mean, can you
their. authorities believe about 70 homes would be impacted and they don t have any reports of missing people or fatalities at this point. that is good news, also authorities say that it is just not isolated community not is facing the flood threat because of the levee issues. it s just not going to be a widespread cascading impact. however yasmin, there are still widespread cascading impacts from floodwaters more broadly we have been trying to access various parts of florida s west coast throughout the day and continually, we have had to pull around, turn the car around and try to find another way. we have still not been successful and that because roads were open for us, they close later for other members of our team who are trying to link up with. self under section has been spotty, there aren t gassed agents working and all of these areas as well so there are any number of challenges that people will be facing and even talking to you right now, about 20 minutes and almost half an h
you can t see it well right now because there is a barge going up the river and series of barges, but some properties on the river side of the levee that are dealing with some water issues. they have had some levee issues there. they have had to do some maintenance on them, but, so far, things are holding. if you look at the situation from the air, all you see is water. yesterday our cameraman dave russ had a chance to go up in a coast guard plane and take a look at the damage you see. you see a lot of farmland inundated and, of course, a lot of homes and businesses inundated, as well. the hope was that for parts of the river, the worst was past, but all this rain that s forecast, some people are talking about the possibility of three, four, five inches of rain. that s all going to be flowing into the river system. it will make this system potentially even worse. can you tell me one thing in the 30 seconds or so i have left. where is everybody right now? mandatory evacuations in that
