After a contentious 90 minutes of public comment on March 2, the Decatur City Commission decided to move forward with purchasing 7 acres of land and refinancing a larger portion of Legacy Park to develop the South Housing Village.
The Decatur City Commission voted Tuesday to extend its face-mask ordinance until a special called commission meeting on March 2. But commissioners signaled they may be ready to lift the city's mask mandate that's been in place - with a brief interruption - since 2020.
Conversations continued last week on Decatur’s tree ordinance as the city’s Environmental Sustainability Board discussed a few recommendations after equity concerns were raised about the canopy loss fee that’s in the ordinance.
The Decatur City Commission will send the amended draft tree ordinance to the Planning Commission for review in January. The board was set to vote on the tree ordinance during its meeting on Dec. 6, but last-minute changes and the realization of needing further review has delayed the vote.
The Decatur City Commission, at its Oct. 18 meeting, unanimously adopted the Destination 2030 strategic plan, which will be the guide for planning projects, policies and priorities over the next 10 years. The city also won a couple awards through the Georgia Planning Association related to the strategic plan.
