SBA, in consultation with the U.S. Treasury Department, reopened the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) for First Draw and Second Draw PPP Loans in January of 2021.    On December 27, 2020, a $900 billion COVID-19 aid package was signed into law as part of the larger omnibus bill funding the federal government. This bill includes $284 billion in new funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), the federal loan program established to support businesses impacted by this lengthy pandemic.  Now that Congress has reopened the application window for small business owners and entrepreneurs in 2021 to apply for the #PaycheckProtectionProgram​, what does that mean and and how do you get one?  The deadline to apply for the PPP is 

BBB Business Tip: Second Draw PPP Loans available

  Milwaukee , Wis. –  Business owners who received a loan under the Paycheck Protection Program may qualify for the Second Draw PPP Loan. At least $25 billion is being set aside for eligible borrowers with a maximum of 10 employees, or for loans of $250,000 or less to eligible borrowers in low or moderate income neighborhoods. The same general loan terms are applicable as the First Draw PPP Loans with a few changes. What is the Second Draw Paycheck Protection Program? The Second Draw Paycheck Protection Program can be used to help fund payroll costs, including benefits. Funds can also be used to pay for mortgage interest, rent, utilities, worker protection costs related to COVID-19, uninsured property damage costs caused by looting or vandalism during 2020, and certain supplier costs and expenses for operations.

A: Borrowers are eligible for a second-draw PPP loan of up to $2 million, provided they have: 300 or fewer employees. Used or will use the full amount of their first PPP loan on or before the expected date for the second PPP loan to be disbursed to the borrower. The IFR also clarifies that the borrower must have spent the full amount of the first PPP loan on eligible expenses. Experienced a revenue reduction of 25% or more in all or part of 2020 compared with all or part of 2019. This is calculated by comparing gross receipts in any 2020 quarter with an applicable quarter in 2019, or, in a provision added in the IFR, a borrower that was in operation for all four quarters of 2019 can submit copies of its annual tax forms that show a reduction in annual receipts of 25% or greater in 2020 compared with 2019.

Summit County banks prepare as 2nd round of Paycheck Protection Program opens to small businesses

While similar to the first round, in that the program provides a loan to small businesses that is intended to be forgivable, there are some notable differences when it comes to eligibility and the loan amount specifically for the hospitality industry. Frances Padilla, district director for the U.S. Small Business Administration in Colorado, explained that there is a narrower eligibility for this round of the program, including a lower cap on the number of employees for businesses that are applying for a second time: Only businesses with 300 or fewer employees can apply, down from the previous limit of 500 employees. Business owners have to prove they’ve experienced a revenue reduction, too.
