John Pitts wants to erect a monument in west Bethlehem to 19th century Black soldiers. He's learned about an Easton park containing remains of soldiers and possibly their families, and he hopes to include their stories in the monument.
A small park in South Side East, Pa., has an unknown number of graves buried beneath it, a forgotten piece of city history. It is a burial site of possibly two dozen Black people who lived in the 19th and 20th centuries, including a few who were Buffalo Soldiers.
