nominee. there s something else i want to focus on here. i asked mitch mcconnell yesterday after the lunch and after the ruling on the travel ban case. i said do you feel vindicated in the fact that you blocked merrick garland from sitting on the court, muscle neil gorsuch on and then could have been a 5-4 decision and could have been 5-4 the other direction. he said i m glad we have a court tilting to the right. this will take the court another direction. democrats have always failed to energize their base when it comes to justices. this is something that the right and the republicans have done for decades now. something that we heard about in the 2016 election. i asked chuck schumer and other reporters about whether or not this could be an issue and could they energize their base on the issue of judges. chuck schumer didn t have a good answer. so we could see that issue tee up if democrats elect to make that a topic going into the mid-terms. dana: thanks, chad.
president trump for the first time. he will is a second chance of a supreme court nomination a chance to make his mark on the court. lots of big decisions ahead of the court. let s listen to the president. a man that i have great respect for, justice anthony kennedy will be retiring. he s a man that i have known for a long time and a man that i have respected for a long time. he s been a great justice of the supreme court. he is a man that is displaying great vision, tremendous vision and tremendous heart. he will be missed but he will be retiring. we will begin our search for a new justice of the united states supreme court that will begin
there s some policies i would like to seen taken up. but here, mitch mcconnell is steadfast. he s changed the rules. they ll get it through. they ll have a tight window to navigate. they ll make sure it happens. dana: another issue you want to see reformed is prison reform. you have a possibility of movement going forward. you think a change in the court and activity and focus can help you get that across the finish line? any time you discuss the criminal justice system, it brings up a lot of issues. it s good for discussion. the prison reform is something that the president asked for. he talked about it. total discussion is something very good. we re looking forward to moving the bill that we passed with almost 100% of the republicans 60% of democrats in the house to the senate. they have the bill now. we have great meetings on that we re looking forward to it.
