epic proportions for any time of the year. not just here in october, it set all kinds of records, but this would be an impressive snowstorm either in january or february. not so much in the big cities. d.c. didn t see that much, nor did philadelphia. in new york city, about 3 inches. but boy, head just to the north and west of some of the major cities and you got into impressive snowfall totals. 9 in scranton. 19 out there in west milford. and 27.8. that s the highest i ve seen in western massachusetts. worcester picking up about 11. that foot of snow in hartford broke a long-standing october record, which was only about an inch or so. it had never snowed that much before in the hartford area in october. but that storm is now the departing, a little bit of leftover snow early today in maine, and that s about it. sunshine will return. it will be windy and cold, though, in the northeast. and then we have another system dropping into the plains with a little bit of light rain, but
i m just saying, once they scrape these roads, we get the more sun angle that will really help things out. as far as traffic this morning for awhile interstate 81 was shut down. the good thing is, this was a dry, powdery snow, so we didn t have the tree and power lines issues. downstate, as you know, living in the tristate area around new york, new jersey and connecticut, it was wild with the wind and the heavy rain fall. we had localized flooding there. this storm pulls out, you can see on the national radar and satellite composite, this thing is spinning out. we ve got some leftover snow and rain in new england. a new storm is brewing, this is going to come out of the rockies into the plains and tomorrow we ll have another outbreak of severe weather, possibly more tornadoes, and snow in the plains. this one, though, richard will track up through the lakes and spare the east coast from any major snowstorm later in the week. but, something to watch tuesday and wednesday. yeah, mike.
this isn t going to be like that. for the folks who live in oklahoma, kansas, this is impressive stuff. colcord ex-oklahoma, 20 inches of snow, hutchinson, 17 inches. parts of the texas panhandle getting into it with serious snowfall. snow mixed with freezing rain in dallas. miserable morning with winds gusting over 30 miles an hour. the cold sayer is the other part of this thing. let s look at other areas getting hammered across little rock, stretching into memphis. the rain/snow, freeport in for a cool rainfall and dallas seeing leftover snow there. again, a slick morning that s carrying on into the afternoon. day time highs expected to get into the mid 20s in dallas, and some of the low temperatures over night are going to be fairly impressive.
could make a visit this weekend to the south into monday could be a monster, as jon mentioned, into the northeast. so just stay tuned, we ll have all of your details for you this weekend as we fine tune that forecast. so let s take a look at what we re dealing with right now. a storm across the northwest again for them. i mean, they ve been dealing with storm after storm after storm. some light snow across the central u.s., and then, of course, the well, it wasn t that big of a deal across the northeast, but we ve been dealing with, again, every week a storm system across the northeast. this one brought a wide swath of 3-6 inches. we re still getting leftover snow out of new england, but it will be out of there within the next 12 hours. however, we re going to be dealing with frigid, frigid temperatures, some of the coldest air of the season, some of the coldest air we ve seen in years in some cases. let s take a look at the snow accumulation, again, anywhere from 6-10 inches for new
this was 20.0. top five. new york city s top five all-time snowstorms. yes, this was a big, historic storm, especially for new york. the rundown, newark, new jersey, 24 inches. the highest total elizabeth, new jersey, 31 inches of snow. just outside new york city, literally 20 miles, was the bull s-eye for the storm. i mentioned some left. portland, maine, leftover snow. blizzard warnings canceled for new york city area. still blizzard warnings around the boston and cape cod area. couple more bands of snow that will be about it. impressive, take a look at the last 36 hours of the storm and you can track the center of it right at the end. it had a little eye but disappeared off of cape cod. the storm s just about gone. how did d.c. escape the snow? incredible. virginia beach a foot of snow, atlanta gets snow but yet d.c. missed out. the storm was weak, as it went off the coast. that that area. off the north carolina coast. it really didn t strengthen
