Ken Hughes, President/CEO of Merchants & Farmers Bank is proud to announce Melissa Phillips has been promoted to New Accounts/IRA Supervisor at the Main Office, headquartered at 501 South 5th Street in Leesville.
“Melissa has been an excellent New Accounts expert at several of our banking locations. She will do a wonderful job heading up our New Accounts/IRA Department,” states Hughes.
Her responsibilities will include ensuring effective management of the operation of new accounts at all branches, making sure established policies and procedures are followed, to include employee training of new accounts, promote all banking products, open/close/update IRA accounts, process successions, handle Estate accounts, process accidental death insurance claims for families of deceased Blue Ribbon members, and open/close Safe Deposit Boxes and CDs.

LEESVILLE, LA Ken Hughes, President/CEO of Merchants & Farmers Bank is pleased to announce Jeanette Hilton has been promoted to Mortgage Lender for the Vernon Parish area market.
Hilton has been with Merchants & Farmers for eight years as a mortgage processor assisting lenders in the loan application process, loan documentation, loan closing procedures, including the follow up and maintenance of closed loans.
Her new responsibilities will include reviewing loan applications for homes, land purchases and refinancing, handling rural development and Federal Housing Administration loans, preparation/processing of residential loans, ordering flood certificates/credit reports, and coordinating loan closings.

The Narcotics Task Force through investigations were able to obtain information that Matthew Vallaire was responsible for distributing narcotics and through further investigation were able to obtain enough probable cause and evidence to obtain a search warrant for Vallaire’s residence. Upon conducting their search a large amount of marijuana, large quantities of pills, cocaine, and stolen/ illegal firearms were located. Matthew was placed under arrest and booked into the BPSO jail and bond was set at $393,000. Matthew’s charges included 2 counts Manufacturing/Distribution of CDS Schedule I, 2 counts Produce, Distribute, Possess w/Intent to Distribute CDS Schedule II, 3 counts Possession of CDS Schedule II, Possession of CDS Schedule I, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Illegal Carrying of Weapons, Possession of Firearm by Felon, Illegal Possess
SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans available to Louisiana small businesses
Small Business Administration Small nonfarm businesses in 21 Louisiana parishes are now eligible to apply for low interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced Director Tanya N. Garfield of SBA s Disaster Field Operations Center-West. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by Hurricane Laura and winds in the following primary parishes that occurred Aug. 26-28, 2020.
Primary parishes: Caldwell, Natchitoches, Ouachita and Red River; Neighboring parishes: Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Catahoula, DeSoto, Franklin, Grant, Jackson, LaSalle, Lincoln, Morehouse, Rapides, Richland, Sabine, Union, Vernon and Winn.
