Through last week, more than 11,000 individuals will have been vaccinated at Lee County sites open to the public. Additionally, FDOH-Lee has vaccinated many medical workers at separate sites since the vaccination became available here in December. This number of individuals does not include vaccinations issued by other entities such as Lee Health.

The health system said 1,200 appointments will be available between NCH Baker Hospital near downtown Naples and NCH North Naples, according to Ilia Echevarria, executive director of NCH’s COVID-19 response team. Appointments are required and sign up will begin at noon Thursday at the hospital website at www.nchmd.org and by visiting the COVID Vaccine Update page. The link to the site will go live at noon Thursday.

/ State health officials reported 17,783 new COVID-19 infections, Wednesday, for a total of 1,409,906 cases to date. The Florida Department of Health also reported 132 coronavirus-related deaths, yesterday, increasing the statewide death toll to 22,647 fatalities since the start of the pandemic. The latest single-day positivity rate reported by the Florida Division of Emergency Management stood at 14.26% on Tuesday. Over the past two weeks the single-day positivity rate has ranged between 9.93% and 26.34%. The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration reports that as of this morning 471 patients are admitted to hospitals with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Lee, Manatee and Sarasota Counties combined. AHCA reports there are 7,294 patients hospitalized with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 throughout the state.

More will be made available when they receive more vaccines. NCH reported that all 1,200 vaccine appointments were filled by 12:10 p.m.  The high influx in traffic to the NCH website at one time caused many in the community to experience service delays or go completely offline. NCH Healthcare System and Lee Health both announced Wednesday they will start vaccinating those 65 years old and up. It’s welcomed news for those who have been trying to get appointments for days.
