LeCLAIRE, Iowa (KTIV) - A woman in eastern Iowa has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after an infant in her care suffered multiple severe injuries resulting in her death. According to the LeClaire, Iowa Police Department, officers were dispatched to an in-home daycare in LeClaire on Feb. 5, 2020, for an infant in distress. Upon arrival, police say first responders found a 5-month-old female who appeared to be unresponsive with labored breathing. The 5-month-old was transported to a local hospital, where her condition worsened. She was then airlifted to an Iowa City hospital, where doctors discovered the child had a fractured skull, as well as a brain bleed.

On Thursday, 56 year old Angela Marxen was arrested in connection to the baby s death. The LeClaire Police Department says on Feb. 5, 2020, officers arrived to an in-home daycare on Frontier Court for an “infant in distress”. According to a press release, the five month old appeared to be unresponsive with labored breathing and was transported to a local hospital where her condition continued to worse. She was then airlifted to Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, where investigators say doctors discovered she had a fractured skull as well as a brain breed.

Angela Marxen, 55, of Davenport, is charged with first-degree murder, child endangerment resulting in death, and misdemeanor child endangerment, according to the LeClaire Police Department and Scott County court records. LeClaire officers were initially called on the afternoon of Feb. 5, 2020, for a report of an infant in distress at an in-home daycare on Frontier Court, the police department said. When they arrived, they found the baby was unresponsive and had labored breathing. The child died on Feb. 9, 2020. An autopsy indicated she was killed by blunt-force injuries to her head. The investigation indicates that the injuries were not accidental.
