Leslie, Chambers set pace in Top 8

Social Share Defending champion Gabrielle Leslie and emerging star Hannah Chambers set the court ablaze yesterday with their second wins of the Barbados Tennis Association’s Top 8 Invitational Tournament. Leslie added to her victory over Leah Ollivierre on Sunday morning with a similarly impressive 6-0, 6-3 win over Asha King as the round robin phase continued at the National Tennis Centre. Barbados’ top female player Chambers had a tough assignment against Serena Bryan before winning 7-5, 6-3. Chambers raced to a 2-0 lead in the first set but a lapse in concentration allowed Bryan to win four straight games for a 4-2 lead. Chambers regained her poise to claim another game, but Bryan won another immediately after to hold a 5-3 advantage. (NM)

Social Share Defending champion Gabrielle Leslie destroyed Leah Ollivierre 6-0, 6-0 when the women’s  Barbados Tennis Association Invitational Top 8 was served off at the National Tennis Centre, Wildey, yesterday morning. Leslie displayed total superiority in every facet of the game as her serves and line drives proved too potent for Ollivierre to make a match of the Group 2 contest. The other Group 2 battle saw Asha King ruling over Taisha Jones 6-3, 6-3. King, who lost the last match which she played against Jones, took the first set and then stuttered slightly in the second with Jones moving from 0-1 to lead 2-1. King locked at two and three before forcing Jones into making some uncharacteristic errors to lose the fight.
