A wind-driven fire in Lawrence that destroyed three homes and damaged three others on Easter Sunday night, causing more than $1 million in damages, was triggered by the improper disposal of smoking materials, fire officials said Wednesday.
The 5-alarm fire, which broke out around 6 p.m., originated in the carport attached to the back of 14 Saratoga St., according to a statement from the state fire marshalâs office.

Woman injured, 17 people displaced, including 4 children, by fire in Lawrence

A massive fire that broke out in Lawrence late Sunday and spread to several buildings left a woman injured and more than a dozen people displaced, including several children, news outlets reported.
The five-alarm blaze was reported on Bennington and Saratoga streets around 7 p.m. The fire displaced 17 people, including four children, The Boston Globe reported.
The woman who was injured was wounded outside one of the burning buildings, Lawrence Fire Chief Brian Moriarty told the newspaper. Authorities did not detail the extent of the woman’s injuries.
