You know, ever since human beings started congregating in institutions of what we would call a higher learning, colleges, universities, conservatives and traditionalists have been freaked out but just were dangerous ideas were being shared their. I mean, really the whole dangerous ideas coming out of universities is literally as old as universities themselves. It has been a core reactionary concern for millennia. Just like everything else, this old thing is new again. This brings us to the most recent republican freakout in florida, which as you may have heard as a governor there, ron desantis calling the creepy Thought Police to campus. He just signed a bill that would require public universities and colleges to survey students, faculty, and staff about the beliefs and few points to support intellectual diversity. Not only that, he is gone on to suggest that budget cuts could take place if schools are found to be, quote, indoctrin
Good morning, this hearing is called to order. The title of this hearing is congressional oversight in the face of executive branch and media suppression, and in particular case study of the crossfire hurricane, corrupt investigation. Ill add that. The hearing is actually quite a bit broader than that. But well certainly focus on that. I became chairman of this committee in january of 2015 and will complete my sixyear term at the end of this month. We can all be proud of the more than 100 piece of legislation we worked on together as a committee that became law. The other than more than 200 bills we passed out of committee, although not signed into law, can still serve as the basis for future legislation. Our committee and subcommittees also have broad oversight jurisdiction, and responsibilities that we have not ignored.
