economic availability, ability to find work. there s bad people out there, there s criminals. they don t want to work any place. that s the problem. or gang members, et cetera. this is a vital law enforcement tool and you ll see what happens. give guilliani credit for cleaning up new york city, continued a policy of stop and frisk which was in place prior to him. give credit for that cleaning up. it was continued. solid job. continued with greg kelly at a level nobody has seen before. it was done before guilliani came to office. worried about racial profiling, hold on, bloomberg signed a law in 2004 banning that. there are safeguards in place. the supreme court said it is legal. it is not a violation of the constitution. it works. it is an effective law enforcement tool and it does, does operate as deterrent. when you have high volume of
think people will wonder, why are they fighting back against it? we do know that they say that this program has saved lives, gotten guns off the street and it is key to keeping to their crime fighting efforts and keeping crime to an historic low. why are they fighting against this? i want to say this, stop and frisk has been around since 1968. it can be a very effective law enforcement tool. i think that is why the mayor wants to make sure the program continues. it has certainly been effective. the supreme court has found it can be effective but, again, it has to be done in a constitutionally appropriate balance. got to find the balance. you ve got to find that balance. perhaps they will win on appeal because the second circuit hasn t been kind to this judge. if you do it, do it right. do it in the way that it s supposed to be done. the way it s supposed to be done, kate, you have to if you re going to stop someone on
the question is how can this translate into activity? i wish president obama and eric holder would take the insight that we get profiled not we, but people of color and from poor communities get profiled regularly. i wish they take that insight to law enforcement. here in new york, law enforcement profiles black americans in new york disproportion na nationgtionate them. you can withdraw some of those laws from law enforcement standpoint and that would go a long way towards easing up racial profiling if we stop doing it as a law enforcement tool. the frightening thing about this case is the story that eric holder told was about being pulled over by police and profiled by police and i agree with matt we need to look at this idea of stop and frisk and racial profiling. the zimmerman case was about a civilian being able to profile you and use deadly force as if they were a policeman. if we take the potential for
