message is. where are they trying to get? this is so much bigger than anybody in this country will stop and have a conversation about, brooke. all over america ever race, every socioeconomic background and every demographic from age is out in the streets together. i saw in berkeley old women pushed by police. this isn t about ferguson. it s not about what happened in new york now. this is a movement of people in this country who said enough is enough with the way we felt and thought about issues like race and other things. do you have law enforcement friends? plenty of them. what do they say? it s across the gamut. one of the most poignant comments i heard from a law enforcement person in the last three weeks was one that said this argument about militarization of our communities, he s a police officer, is absolutely true. the difference between police and our military is when we give them these weapons, we give them rules of engagement. we re selling weapons to civilians and
able to glean from the video so far. this is one of the reasons the police chief is saying there could be other shooters involved because you see someone in the military uniform drawing a weapon. and there s other indications on the tape that that person may or ney not have fired a weapon. what s difficult here, you can t tell from the video whether this was a law enforcement person, military police officer responding to the shooting or whether it is in fact someone who was doing shooting himself so i think for that reason it cannot be ruled out and that s why the chief says she wants information for anyone that can explain what police see on the video and what they ve heard from witnesses. in terms of witnesses, the fbi and police have a huge task ahead of them now. they are interviewing hundreds of people and may be interviews
to officials but i want to go back to john. so look. you know this venue. you know the circumstances. you know the personnel. so what would you be looking at here in terms of the shooter? well, i guess the thing that is most alarming, especially to law enforcement on the scene, is the fact that the shooter or shooters have been identified as carrying a.r. 15 military style weapons. and these weapons are extremely dangerous, even to your average law enforcement person. the typical kevlar vest, bulletproof vests that most security officers and police officers on patrol will wear are not equipped to stop this type of weaponry so it takes special protection which the swat teams gregg: let me interrupt you if a moment because the associated
room you, have to look at the totality of the situation and find out what you re dealing with. one of those gentlemen from what i have read was a former deputy sheriff or a law enforcement person and he saw the totality of this. it wasn t just one thing, it wasn t just new equipment, it was new equipment combined with the way they acted. i think she might have even been in pajamas which is a kicker. so i think he did a phenomenal job of just saying something s wrong here. let s talk about how this all really went down then, the searchers, they spotted them from the air and then they dropped teams 2 1/2 hours from the location where they were. talk to me about the strategy that you would know how the fbi would handle coordinating all of this. what kind of strategy were they employing here. this is something we train to do in s.w.a.t. you would not want to be dropped right on the campsite because the hostage taker could harm or
