bit higher. a chilly start, a frosty one. last night temperatures in braemar and balmoralfell to 9, 10 degrees, making it of the coldest night of the winter is over. we have also got some rain in northern ireland. it would be pushing steadily northwards and eastwards through the day. after a bright start we will see the cloud encroach and the wind is going to strengthen behind this weather front. it is coming from a mild direction, from the south, so note the temps temperatures in cardiff, plymouth compared to the rest of the uk. overnight at the rain pushes northwards and eastwards. now for a time across parts of northern scotland. a lot of cloud. some mark around. another cold night for many. a touch of frost likely in north east england, parts of scotland as well. back towards the west we are in milder conditions. a murky start to the day tomorrow.
the weather with matt taylor. i have to say it was a rather lovely day in london today. it s a bit different london today. it s a bit different further north. we have much more cloud and rain particularly across the northern half of scotland but it was the exception and it could bring some view of the aurora tonight. if it does show its hand although strong gusty winds it will feel colder here. clear skies with across the south like last night temperatures could be down to around 2 or three degrees. another cool start with more cloud on tuesday. a web front from northwest scotland into the eastern coast of england. they will be some light rain and drizzle at times pushing further west. close to london by the end of the day. west of that in the light winds in the milder air, temperatures could be in the high teens but with just some cold air pushing towards the coast and
that s like, the chill there. still lots of snow behind you. what s the biggest problem for folks there? reporter: well, fred. we re actually pretty lucky. the coastal regions were hardest hit. there were about 13 deaths that resulted from the storm. here in boston there were up to 2 feet of snow in the massachusetts area and last night temperatures were near record low temperatures. but here most people have been spending the day trying to scoop out their parking spots. a lot of shoveling of snow. we ran into danielle here and she s taking care of little nicholas here. she was telling us how difficult it was for her to get a parking spot. that s right. it s very hard. people put things in the spot and we can t park. you can t park. people are putting in chairs and cones trying to reserve their spot, right? that s right.
outside of the beltway, 104 degrees and the dew point at 81, but 104 degrees and the dew point is important, because you talk about the heat index and what it feels like out there, 130. that is what it feels like in warrington, virginia, outside of the beltway right here. it is hot out here. you stand outside and you stand around for a little while and you will start sweating, no doubt about it. it is that hot. it is not going to cool down when that sun goes down. last night temperatures were right around 90 degrees in many spots at midnight here in the mid-atlantic and the northeast. this morning, before sunrise, many locations had locations still in the mid-80s with heat index around 90 degrees and felt like 90 degrees before sunrise in many spots. this is a dangerous heat wave we are dealing with in the mid-atlantic and the northeast and it is going the last into tomorrow. tomorrow is a similar day to today, jeff, and any real relief, we have to wait for the beginning of next week,
