Murder charge filed against felon accused of killing Coachella man Riverside County Sheriff s Department Gabriel Ramirez Murder and other felony charges were filed today against a 52-year-old man accused of killing a Coachella resident. Gabriel Castro Ramirez of Coachella was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of killing 46-year-old Jimmy Meza the day before. Along with the murder count, Ramirez is charged with one count each of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, along with three counts of child endangerment. Additional details regarding the attempted murder and child endangerment charges were unclear. Ramirez, who remains in custody without bail, was scheduled to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center.

Man accused in deadly Cathedral City shooting pleads not guilty Cathedral City Police Department Jose Ernesto Martinez A 28-year-old man accused in a fatal shooting in Cathedral City pleaded not guilty today to a murder charge. Jose Ernesto Martinez of Desert Hot Springs was arrested Saturday on suspicion of gunning down 27-year-old Isaac Valles of Rancho Mirage earlier that morning. Martinez was arraigned at the Banning Justice Center before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Alfonso Fernandez, who set bail at $1 million and scheduled a felony settlement conference for July 13 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio. Martinez remains held at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio. Along with a murder charge, Martinez faces a sentence-enhancing allegation of discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury.
