Whenever someone comes into a new position, there is usually a learning curve.
We donât expect Monsignor Larry Kulick will have that with his new role.
Earlier this month, Pope Francis named him the new bishop of the Greensburg Diocese.
He already knows the mechanics of the office.
He has been the diocesan administrator since September, when Bishop Edward Malesic became the bishop of Cleveland.
He spent previous years as the dioceseâs vicar general.
But he knows more than that. This is about more than just the work â the important work â of the office or the honor of wearing the bishopâs miter.

Monsignor Larry Kulick wondered who would lead the Diocese of Greensburg after Bishop Edward Malesic was installed in the Diocese of Cleveland in September.
How easily would the new bishop fit in with the 126,000 Catholics in the 78 parishes in Westmoreland, Indiana, Fayette and Armstrong counties? Would he have a sense of humor? Would he like pierogis, pizza and the Terrible Towel?
âI have been fervently praying for the announcement,â he said about Pope Francisâs anticipated appointment.
As vicar general under Bishop Malesic and diocesan administrator after the bishop left, he would be the one receiving the news.
That call came the week before last when he learned that Pope Francis had appointed him as the sixth bishop of the diocese.

Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez issued the following statement Dec. 18 on the appointment by Pope Francis of Msgr. Larry Kulick as the new bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg in Southwestern Pennsylvania read more here.
I was filled with great joy this morning to learn that the Holy Father has appointed Monsignor Larry Kulick, a native of Western Pennsylvania, as the 6th Bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg. I’m confident that he will carry on the work of his predecessors with compassion, joy, and fidelity.
Monsignor Kulick’s wide ranging pastoral and administrative experience as a parish priest, canon lawyer, Vicar General, and Diocesan Administrator for the Diocese of Greensburg will serve him well in the office of bishop. The Holy Father has given a true gift to all those Bishop-elect Kulick will shepherd. I eagerly look forward to presiding over his episcopal ordination and consecrating him a bishop on February 11th at Blessed Sacrament Cathed
