FULTONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) - Gov. Kay Ivey, state and Jefferson County leaders visited Fultondale a day after an EF-3 tornado destroyed homes, buildings, a school and killed a young boy.
Governor Ivey started the news conference Wednesday by saying, âThe people of Alabama are praying for yâall this morning and we are here as a sign of our commitment to your recovery.â

FULTONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) - A tragic Monday night in Fultondale after one person was killed in a tornado, dozens of other people were injured.
Mayor Larry Holcomb said one person was killed in the storm in the New Castle Road, Carson Road area.
At least 18 people were taken to a hospital with injuries. Eleven people were treated on the scene. According the NWS the Fultondale tornado has been given a rating of EF-3 with peak winds around 150 mph. NWS crews said intensity and width varied along its path. The EF-3 damage was focused near Lykes Blvd to New Castle Rd.

An Alabama man was found dead inside his basement after a tornado ripped through a small city north of Birmingham, where rescue teams continued searching for the trapped and injured early Tuesday morning.
The victim, who is believed to be a teenager, was pronounced dead at the scene around 3 a.m.
Fultondale Police Chief D.P. Smith told AL.com the victim and his family took shelter in their basement amid the deadly weather Monday night, but that they were left trapped after a tree toppled and collapsed the roof of their home.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WMC/WBRC) - Severe weather swept through parts of Alabama overnight. The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down near Birmingham.
Fultondale, Alabama Mayor Larry Holcomb told our Birmingham news affiliate WBRC that one person was killed.

One person is dead after a tornado tore through an Alabama city north of Birmingham Monday night, leaving the area with crumpled buildings and downed trees. Fultondale Fire Chief Justin McKenzie confirmed the death to CBS News, adding that 17 others were brought to hospitals and 11 more were treated at the scene.
Police Chief D.P. Smith said a young man trapped in the basement of his home was the person who lost his life. Smith said he was pronounced dead at the scene around 3 a.m. Tuesday, AL.com reported.
Smith said a tree fell onto the victim s home, causing it to collapse. The victim and his family took shelter in the basement and were trapped inside, Smith said.
