I find it puzzling. He did vote for lincoln in 1864. Theres no doubt about that. He didnt in 1860 because he couldnt get vote in 1860. But youre quite right that he never really expressed the kind of reverence for lincoln and admiration for lincoln and profound respect for lincolns leadership and what lincoln stood for that one might have thought that, i think, his father, Oliver Wendell holmes sr. , did. And it may have something to do with the kind of skepticism with which he emerged from the war with about so much. Of everything. But it still does puzzle me.
