Alexis Leone, a sophomore, won the Class 1A individual title at the state cross country meet on Nov. 6 in Pasco. In doing so, she led Seton Catholic to the first team championship in the history of the nine-year-old school.

When Seton Catholic’s Lara Carrion toed the starting line for the 3,200 meters at the 1A district meet at Seton on Friday, she was the only competitor with a watch on her wrist.

Area high school administrators are grappling with a new state requirement that is delaying many athletes from beginning competition.
Last week, the state announced that high school and middle school wrestlers must be tested twice a week before they can compete with wrestlers from other schools.
