New Jersey vice principal throws BEER at diners who were filming his wife s transphobic rant
Cellphone footage captures Michael Smurro arguing with outdoor diners after his wife complained about a transgender woman using the women s bathroom
A woman tells Smurro s wife please take your hate elsewhere, before Smurro walks up and tosses beer from his cup at their table I allowed my emotions to get in the way of my normally sound judgement and reacted in a way that was inappropriate, Smurro said in an apology statement
Neptune Middle School superintendent Dr. Tami Crader said the incident is under investigation and will be taken seriously
NEPTUNE A middle school administrator is under investigation after throwing a cup of beer during a loud and transphobic confrontation caught on video at a Galloway restaurant over the weekend.
Neptune Superintendent Tami R. Crader and school board President Chanta L. Jackson called the outdoor episode Saturday involving middle school principal Michael Smurro, 55, and his wife, Lisa, 53, unfortunate and inappropriate, in a statement on the district s website that also promised an appropriate response. The actions shown in the video do not reflect our district’s commitment to inclusivity, cooperation, respect, and nonviolence, Crader and Jackson said in the statement, which did not name the school district s vice principal, who is plainly seen hurling beer in a video, or his wife, heard complaining throughout the encounter about whom she said was a transgender woman who used the women s bathroom.
