West Charlotte rushed out to a comfortable lead early and nursed it into an 84-75 win over Central Cabarrus in Saturday afternoon's 3A West final in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association basketball tournament held at Crump-Rogers Gymnasium at Freedom High.
It was just the kind of game the Helias Crusaders were looking for. Helias was able to hang tough against an athletic Confluence Prep squad, and the Crusaders made enough free throws down the stretch to get a 72-69 win Friday night in their home finale at Rackers Fieldhouse.
It’s rare to find a basketball team that enjoys shooting 3-pointers as much as the Helias Crusaders. The De Smet Spartans are one of those few teams. Well, at least they were Monday night. De Smet shot 13-of-24 from beyond the arc, dominating from start to finish in an 81-46 win against Helias at Rackers Fieldhouse.
