And im steve daniels. cuba and haiti are in the path right now. And it could bring devastation and matthew could end up here by the weekend. So, governor mccrory declared a state of emergency for the entire abc 11 viewing area. A total of 66 counties are under that order. The Emergency Operations center is activated.
General. Its just 35 miles away from the southwestern portions of haiti. Barreling there close. Becoming more defined throughout the course of this morning. Winds at 145 miles an hour. Gusts as strong as 175. Its moving north at about 9 miles an hour. So its still moving pretty slow. It has picked up a little bit of Forward Momentum from yesterday morning. Starting to seat thicker bands starting to move across the eastern portions of cuba as well. Cuba will be the next to seat biggest impact from closer to home nsm the meantime before we get to this storm, you can see that our weather is going to be quiet. No rain to speak of, which is good. Its moving to the north at 9 miles an hour and thats one crucial problem with this storm. It is nearly crawling. Its going impact looks like the eastern portions of cuba later today and we move into the bahamas as we head into the middle of the workweek. But, there was one big shift west today and that has the storm potentially making land fall across eastern North Carolina over the weekend ahead.
