How ag businesses deliver on their commitments to sustainability

One resounding message is the need for “radical collaboration” across the industry, to move the needle forward for the farmer and environment. The panelists include: Teddy Bekele, chief technology officer at Land O’Lakes Jennifer Morris, chief executive officer of The Nature Conservancy Ruth Kimmelshue, head of business operations supply chain and chief sustainability officer at Cargill John Church, chief supply chain officer at General Mills “The farmer is the original environmentalist,” says Bekele. “Farmers want to do right by the land from one generation to the next, but at the same time, by augmenting their profit and loss, there is further incentive to put soil health practices into place.”

OMAHA (DTN) How to respond to pressure for agriculture to sequester carbon and reduce emissions is a theme running through discussions during the online Commodity Classic this week. During the opening session of Commodity Classic, leaders of the major commodity groups offered their takes on agriculture’s moves to focus more on climate change, as well as the Biden administration’s drive to lower greenhouse-gas emissions across the economy. January 11, 2021 The big stories of 2020 were not just about a pandemic, a reckoning on racial justice, an economic calamity and the ever-imminent rise of climate change impacts. If a crisis is the ultimate test of leadership, last year provided ample narratives about leaders stepping up.
