Consumers in trouble as gas suspension continues on second day

PESHAWAR: The natural gas suspension continued to torment the domestic consumers on the second day Wednesday, with price of the LPG cylinder rising as more people flocked to purchase the gas. Meanwhile, officials of the SNGPL blame CNG stations for taking over the gas being supplied to the domestic consumers.
Javed Khan, a resident of Khattako Pul area in rural part of the provincial metropolis, told The News that he had got a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder filled for Rs180 per kilogram, which a day earlier was Rs140. He feared that the prices would go up as more people were flocking to LPG shops. He said that people in his area were also buying fuel wood after suspension of gas supply.
Nonagenarian businessman Basant Chadha dies in India at age of 92

PESHAWAR: Basant Chadha, a migrant businessman from the provincial capital who died of natural causes in Jabalpur in India at the age of 92, always greatly missed the city of his birth, said Dr Ali Jan, a noted cultural activist and historian.
He is survived by a daughter Shobha Puri and son Anil Chadha.
Basant Chadha was born in Peshawar on October 18, 1928. His father Gulab Rai Chadha owned a store on the Arbab Road in Peshawar Cantonment. Known as “Gulab Rai & Sons” the shop carried on until 1948 before the family migrated to India after Partition.

PESHAWAR: Hundreds of villagers on Monday blocked the main Kohat Road to protest against the interruption in power and gas supply in the area.
Thousands of people travelling to and from the southern districts suffered for several hours as Indus Highway was clocked near Syfan area. The protesters said that power is only supplied to their areas for a couple of hours during the entire day.
They said that villages on both sides of Ring Road and Kohat Road, including Bazidkhel, Badaber, Mahsokhel, Kaga Wala, Garhi Qamardin, Bahader Kilay, and Landi Arbab remain without power and gas for several hours every day.

PESHAWAR: A district administration team on Sunday visited various areas to supervise anti-polio campaigns and convinced parents who refused to give polio drops to their children.
The personnel of the district administration, health department and other relevant departments were visiting houses to vaccinate children against poliovirus in the ongoing drive.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Asghar along with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief) Muhammad Imran Khan and Assistant Commissioner Syed Noman Ali Shah visited Landi Arbab, Kohat Road and other areas and supervised the anti-polio campaign.
After meeting the parents and convincing them, they vaccinated the children while the administrative officers went door-to-door with the anti-polio teams in their areas to persuade the parents who refused to give polio drops to their children.
