Province commits $822,695 toward West Kootenay wildfire risk reduction projects SHARE ON: Communities in the Southeast Fire Centre are getting grants to help combat and mitigate wildfires. “Across the Kootenays, one of the biggest draws is that we get to live next to nature,” said Nelson-Creston MLA Brittny Anderson. “Unfortunately, that can mean our homes and communities are at greater wildfire risk. By supporting these projects, we are making sure people will be protected by a community-led response in the case of a wildfire.”   Projects in the Southeast Fire Centre include: $204,620 to Creston Valley Forest Corporation $184,070 to Harrop-Procter Community Co-operative $260,505 to Kaslo and District Community Forest Society

B C Government announces funding to help reduce wildfire risks

CFNR Network Apr 1, 2021 11:37 AM The Provincial Government has announced over $5 million to help Community Forest Agreement holders complete wildfire risk reduction projects. The B.C. Community Forest Association will distribute more than $5 million to 15 holders of the community forest agreements across B.C. to fund 44 Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction (CLWRR) projects. This funding stream is part of the Community Resiliency Investment program administered by the B.C. Wildfire Service. Wetzin’Kwa Community Forest Corporation in Stikine will receive $663,000. The funding is all part of StrongerBC: B.C.’s Economic Recovery Plan.
