Kerala s seniormost Communist leader and the member of the first elected government, KR Gouri Amma has passed away at the age of 101 years. Gouri Amma was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for age-related ailments.
Gouri Amma was the last surviving member of the first Kerala government. Gouri Amma was the first revenue minister of Kerala in the EMS cabinet of 1957. After the Communist Party split in 1964, she became part of CPI(M). In 1994, she was expelled from CPI(M) following internal rifts.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], May 11 (ANI): The first Revenue Minister of Kerala and JSS leaderKR Gouri Amma passed away on Tuesday at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where she was admitted due to age-related ailments. She was 102.
KR Gouri had recently stepped down from the state general secretary post of the Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS). She held the post since the formation of the party in 1994.
The party was formed after Gouri was expelled from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1994. She served as Revenue Minister in the first EMS Namboodiripad government and introduced the revolutionary Land Reforms Bill in 1957.

Noted for her revolutionary activism among the poor, working class, and peasants, she was jailed on a number of occasions for political activities.
“I am just like any other common woman. I don’t have the diplomatic flexibility of seasoned politicians. I am very straightforward in talking my mind and working it out the same way, with no holds barred. My rough nature has created a lot of friends and foes for me. There are a lot of people who hate me and love me due to my nature,” wrote K.R. Gouri Amma in her autobiography
