The YMCA continues its mission to reach out to not only its SilverSneakers members but all community seniors. Spiritual Enrichment Director Brad Petrie has been hosting First and Third Tuesday Devotionals for seniors following SilverSneakers classes.
In the month of March, Petrie will be hosting a free Healthy Living Class that will help seniors focus on their physical, emotional, and spiritual health. This four-week class runs every Tuesday from 11-11:45 a.m. in the Senior Fitness Room at the YMCA. The first class will take place March 2 and run through March 23. Classes are open to all members and non-members at no cost.

One person was sentenced while four others appeared for criminal hearings during a light week in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court.
Joshua Lesko, 32, of Ohio City, was sentenced to 150 days in jail on one count of violating a civil protection order, a felony of the fifth degree. Judge Martin Burchfield gave Lesko credit for 82 days already served.
Also this week, Ashley McCarthy, 38, of Van Wert, changed her plea to guilty to one count each of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of heroin, each a felony of the fifth degree.
Judge Burchfield ordered a presentence investigation and a drug court evaluation in the case and scheduled sentencing for 9 a.m. Thursday, April 15.

CONVOY The Crestview Local Board of Education will permit open enrollment of students from any Ohio district through “open enrollment” for the 2021‐2022 school year.
Applications will be accepted beginning April 1, on a first‐come, first‐served basis, according to the time and date the application is received by the superintendent of Crestview Local Schools. Requests will be acted upon no later than July 1.
Applications will be considered in the order received and class size may be limited. All applications (except for kindergarten students) must be completed and returned no later than May 31. Applications are available by contacting the Superintendent’s Office at 419.749.9100, extension 4, or on the school website at www.crestviewknights.com under “Parent Resources”.

For the past 26 years, the YWCA of Van Wert County has held the Summer Food Program to ensure that no child goes hungry during the summer months.

While last summer’s program looked different and was run as a drive-thru meal pick-up due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the YWCA distributed nearly 15,000 meals to children.
This summer’s program will be held Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., at the S.F. Goedde Building, 205 W. Crawford St. in Van Wert.

The Van Wert Heartland Patriots will hold their March meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 551 Center St. in Van Wert.
The featured speaker for the evening will be Van Wert Area Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Stacy Adam, who will provide an overview of the organization, which works with existing businesses to help them meet their needs through workforce development, financing tools, and grant programs.
The VWAEDC also includes the Revolving Loan Fund, Van Wert Land Revitalization Corporation (land bank), PACE financing, the Business Advisory Council, Community Development Block Grants, and the CHIP program.
