VW Health offers healthcare scholarship

VW independent/submitted information Van Wert Health announces a scholarship opportunity for 2021 graduating high school students. The Medical and Healthcare Scholarship Program was founded to support the growth and development of students from all sectors of the human healthcare industry. “We are honored to offer this scholarship again this year, which reflects the importance of supporting the education of our future healthcare professionals,” said Van Wert Health President/CEO Jim Pope. “We have been reminded how vital healthcare workers are to our community over the past year. These scholarships will be meaningful to the individuals who have made the thoughtful decision to dedicate their lives to the healthcare profession and caring for others.”

Celebrate contributions of develop disabled residents

VW independent/submitted information March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. Van Wert County Board of Developmental Disabilities (VWCBDD) is encouraging the community to celebrate the many contributions of people with developmental disabilities. VWCBDD also seeks to raise awareness about the inclusion of all people in all facets of community life.  Michelle and Sue Lichtle with some of their craft handiwork. VWCBDD photo “The individuals with disabilities that we serve, and their supports, are grateful for the encouragement from the community to help continue to foster independence and provide inclusive opportunities,” said Paula Miller, VWCBDD Community Employment Coordinator. “Our Youth Transition group is always enthusiastic to be involved in community events and volunteering locally.” 

Electric entities donate to CERT program

VW independent/submitted information CONVOY In collaboration with Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative, the Robert P. Mone Generating Station announced that it has donated $500 to the Van Wert County Foundation, to be directed to the Van Wert County Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. “The Mone staff is honored to support the efforts of the Van Wert County CERT,” said Plant Manager Dave Richardson. “We applaud the work of the CERT volunteers, who provide a critical community service.” The Robert P. Mone Generating Station is natural gas-powered peaking plant, with a 510 MW generation capacity. Peaking plants are placed into operation when energy demand is at its highest.

YMCA, CERT collaborate to help local disaster victims
